That way you can ensure the quality and accuracy of your work while also creating something truly special and one-of-a-kind. People do it all the time with brands like Seiko and Vostok. If you do ever get into watch repair, though, you could consider creating your own modded watches. ![]() It looks like I got somewhat lucky, at least. I bought one and now I'm just trying to make the best of my situation. I have neither one I'm just somebody who wasn't well-informed about the dangers of Indian redial watches. They're interesting to dive into if you have some spare cash to burn or a lot of watch repair knowledge. I think you'd be better off just spending a bit more to get a vintage watch that's *not* from India (unless it's an HMT or some other domestic brand those tend to be less "played with"). The issue is finding which ones are which. Some look very nice, some are, in fact, actually nice. If I were you, I would not buy any frankenwatches. Good news is, I found a domed acrylic crystal that I liked for a decent price that *should* fit the case well, provided I measured correctly. something (not proper crystal cement), which was also not great. Looked okay from afar, but it's on my wrist, and it annoyed me to no end. That gap was just super annoying (and obvious), though. I have always wanted a watch with a green face :)Īh, and the worst part about the crystal was that it was so close to fitting - within 1mm or so. So do you think I screwed up? I mean, either way, I'm only out $20, but I would really love it if this watch worked. So, basically, I bought this watch knowing little to nothing about the world of Indian frankenwatches, but after some reading, I see that they are infamous in the community. The seller claims that the watch is in full working order, and if it fails to work upon arrival, they offer free returns. The day/date dial is in English and Hindi, as would be expected. The same goes for the glass, which looks slightly scuffed, but not terribly, and nothing a little scrubbing couldn't handle. The metal case is slightly scuffed and scratched, but in good shape overall. It does look to be in good shape, however, not stained, frayed, or cut anywhere. ![]() It has a light-colored leather band, certainly not original, but easy to replace if need be. The listing claims that the movement is a 6349, and based on the photos taken with the case back off, it is a legitimate Seiko movement, with little corrosion visible. I guess I got myself a good 'ol Mumbai Special, didn't I? I did some research, and it is most certainly not a genuine dial. The watch claims to be a vintage Seiko 5, and the face, at least, is genuine. My question is, what are the odds of this being a piece of garbage that will not work? Here are some specifics about the listing: I simply wanted a relatively nice looking watch with a green face for the sake of everyday casualwear, so I decided to take a risk with this one. Like I said, I am okay with that as long as the watch works. Now, I know that at best, it will have random parts sourced from other watches. I spent ~$20 USD on a supposed vintage Seiko 5 from India. /r/WatchExchange for buying, selling, trading watchesīanner photo courtesy of /u/northscylla Please take a look at our community rules and FAQ before contributing!./r/WatchHorology our sister subreddit for horology, watch appreciation, history, technical discussion and related topics.Simple Questions and Recommendations ThreadĬome hang out in the Official /r/Watches Discord! ![]() Our previous Buying Guide thread: Dive Watches Check them outĪpril 2019 State of the Sub Discussion and SummaryĢ1-26 Mar 19 Baselworld 2019 Discussion MegathreadĤ Dec 18 - AMA with Arial Adams & Matt Smith-Johnson for a new LE watch collaboration with Laco. ![]() The TAG Heuer subreddit has been reactivated and is now live.Updates to the Buying Guide have begun as well!
